Unemployed Man Gets One-Month Jail For Injuring Auxiliary Police

KUALA LUMPUR: An unemployed man was sentenced to a month’s jail by the Magistrate’s Court here today for injuring an auxiliary policeman when he threw a rotor screw at him causing his lips to bleed.
Magistrate Nur A’minahtul Mardiah Md Nor handed down the sentence to S. Kannan, 35, after the accused pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code.
He was charged with committing the offence at the Pasar Seni LRT Station Bus Stop, Jalan Hang Kasturi, Dang Wangi, here at 9.50am on April 20 where Muhamad Afiq Fauzi, 24, was on duty as a Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad (Prasarana) auxiliary police.
According to the facts of the case, the incident occurred when the accused was behaving suspiciously on a motorcycle belonging to the auxiliary police parked near the police post.
The accused was also sentenced to 20 days jail for failing to produce an identity card or any other identification document when he was arrested.
The sentences were ordered to run concurrently from the date of arrest on April 20.
Earlier, in mitigation, Kannan, who was unrepresented, appealed for a minimum sentence on the grounds that he had to take care of his ailing mother.
Deputy public prosecutor Noor Svetlana Mohd Noor appeared for the prosecution.
